Introduction to Media Literacy
Why integrate media literacy in the classroom? As teachers, we are expected to introduce concepts that affect the way our students gather, receive and analyze information. And because we live in a digital age, and as members of a consumerist society, we are bombarded with different messages coming from different modes of communication that require and compete for our attention. Having a better and bigger understanding of the role of media in society will assist us in making sense of our media affects as individuals. It will also assist in transferring that understanding to a level that our students can also understand or appreciate. As teachers, you can also use your learning from this course as spring board for discussion of current or emerging trends in social studies, current affairs, or even as triggers for writing or reading activities.
This course runs from June 1 to August 31 2018 only. Certificates of completion is provided during this period only and downloadable automatically after completion of the course. Access to this course is for 1 year.
